Paediatric First Aid (EYFS approved)

Course Overview
This course is for those who might have to identify and manage emergency situations or manage minor everyday occurrences when looking after children (defined as up to puberty). This qualification meets Ofsted requirements for those working in early years settings and uses the criteria for effective paediatric first aid training found in Appendix 1 of The Early Years Foundation Stags (EYFS) Practice Guidance document.
The current EYFS statutory framework requires at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate to be on the premises or outings at all times when children are present.
Course Duration
2 days (12 hours)
  • Incident management – school, nursery & childcare environments
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation – Infant and Child
  • Choking
  • Bleeding – internal/external, minor/major
  • Shock – hypovolemic & anaphylactic
  • Hypothermia and hyperthermia
  • Febrile convulsions
  • Treating damage – suspected fractures, head, neck and back injuries
  • Eye injuries – and foreign bodies in eye, ears and nose
  • Bites and stings
  • Poisoning
  • Burns and scalds
  • Electric shock
  • Common illnesses – asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, sickle cell anaemia
  • Sudden serious illness – meningitis
  • First aid kits
Certificate is valid for 3 years. Revalidation is by attending a repeat course.
